How to make Vietnamese Tapioca Dumpling

Vietnamese Tapioca Dumplings, also known as Banh Bot Loc, are a delicious and popular snack in Vietnam. Here's how to make Vietnamese Tapioca Dumplings:

Ingredients:

  • 250g tapioca starch
  • 125g rice flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 300ml water
  • 200g minced pork
  • 100g shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground pepper
  • 1/2 tsp chicken powder
  • 1/2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp minced shallot
  • 1/2 tsp fish sauce
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp vegetable oil

Instructions:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the tapioca starch, rice flour, and salt. Slowly add in the water while stirring the mixture with a spoon until it forms a smooth dough. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it becomes soft and elastic.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the minced pork, shrimp, sugar, salt, ground pepper, chicken powder, minced garlic, minced shallot, fish sauce, sesame oil, and vegetable oil.
  • Divide the dough into small balls, about the size of a ping pong ball. Flatten each ball into a small disc with your palm, then use a rolling pin to flatten it further into a thin circle.
  • Spoon a small amount of the pork and shrimp filling onto the center of the circle. Fold the edges of the dough up and around the filling, then pinch the edges together to seal the dumpling.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining dough and filling, until you have used up all of the dough.
  • Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the dumplings to the pot and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
  • Remove the dumplings from the pot with a slotted spoon and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
